Google Maps lets you find such things as businesses, driving directions and bike routes for free online, but you get access to lots of extra features when you create a My Maps account. If you already have a Google ID for Gmail or other Google services, you can use that to log in to My Maps. With My Maps, you can add multiple locations to maps and add icons to each location.
Instructions
1. Navigate to maps.google.com and log in to your account. If you do not have a Google account, click the "Create an account" button on the sign in page and follow the instructions.
2. Click the "My Maps" link in the top-left corner of the Google Maps homepage. Click the "Get Started" button if you have a Google account but have never used My Maps before.
3. Type a title and description for your map into the respective fields. Click "Public" to create a public map that will show up in search results or click "Private" to create a map that you can share with selected people. Click the "Done" button.
4. Type an address into the search field at the top of the map to add a location to your map. In the search results that appear in the left column of the Maps window, click the "Save To" link that appears under the address you want to add. Select the map you just created from the drop-down menu and click the "Save" button.
5. Continue this process with each address, point of interest or location you want to add to your map. When you have finished adding location points to your map, click the "My Maps" link. Click the link for your map.
6. Click a location to which you want to add an icon and then click the "Edit" button in the right column of the Google Maps window. The "Edit" button is also for editing the title and description of your map along with location details, which is why it's placement on the page can be confusing.
7. Click the location marker icon in the top-right corner of the edit window for your location. Select an icon from the available list of click the "Add an icon" link in the top-right corner to add your own custom icon. Click the 'OK" button to save your changes. Continue this process for each individual location to which you want to add an icon.
