Girls' sports grants fund opportunities for young women from all backgrounds.
Grants for girls' sports are available to individual athletes and sports programs across the United States. These awards cover a number of sports and athletic opportunities. The two types of grants awarded for girl's sports are those given to support the athletic opportunities and ambitions of young women and those for youth sports programs in general, regardless of gender. These grants are available from a number of sources, including grant-making foundations and major corporations.
Women's Sports Foundation
Women's Sports Foundation is a nonprofit organization that addresses issues concerning women in sports, including equality, body and mind awareness, women's rights and homophobia. In addition to its own research imperatives, the foundation funds girls' sports through a series of grants and scholarships. GoGirlGo! is a grant-making program that funds sports programs run by organizations and schools for girls aged 8 through 13. Other grants available in 2011 include Jump Start, Travel and Training, and the Rusty Kanokogi Fund for the Advancement of U.S. Judo.
Ann Bancroft Foundation
The Ann Bancroft Foundation gives grants to young Minnesotan women, including athletes, to promote courage, risk-taking, integrity and individuality in women. The foundation provides two types of grants: Dream Maker Awards and Dare to Dream Micro Grants. Dare to Dream Micro Grants are awarded to girls aged 10 and above up to the 10th grade for undertaking "adventures, including athletic endeavors. Dream Maker Awards are available to individuals and organizations. Individual awards are given to women and girls who are exceptional achievers and show leaderships skills in athletics or other areas. Organizational grants are awarded to organizations or corporations for the encouragement and support of women in a number of areas, including athletics.
Ladies Professional Golf Association
The Ladies Professional Golf Association provides grants and scholarships to young women interested in pursuing the sport. Scholarships are provided to high school seniors who will be playing collegiate golf. Grants are awarded through the LPGA-USGA program for American girls aged 7 through 17. The program provides grants to young women and girls so that they can attend golf camps, and develop athletically and personally in a safe environment under the guidance of positive female role models.
General Youth Sports Grants
General youth sports grants are available for girls' programs. NikeDonations, a Nike program, donates shoes and uniforms to youth sports teams in the United States and the Netherlands. The Charlotte Martin Foundation awards grants to youth sports programs for boys and girls aged 8 through 15 in underserved communities. Good Sports awards grants for the purchase of equipment for youth teams and leagues. The Daniels Fund awards grants for community-based youth sports programs, after-school sports programs and quality staff coaching and training.
