Find The Correct Voice Recorder

Find the Right Voice Recorder

A voice recorder can be used for anything from simple reminders and grocery lists to recording business meetings or class lectures. Finding the right voice recorder for you means considering what you are going to use it for and how you want to store the information you record. There are several types of voice recorders that are available at many different prices.

Instructions

1. Decide between digital or tape voice recorders. Tape recorders are probably going to be slightly cheaper, but the technology is becoming archaic and the quality will not be as good. Digital recorders offer file storage on flash memory or a hard drive and several quality options.

2. Check the file format. Some voice recorders have proprietary file formats that are only compatible with that brand, while others offer file formats such as MP3, WAV and WMA that will work with several different applications.

3. Figure out if you need to transfer the files from the voice recorder to your computer. Some voice recorders will allow you to transfer the files by memory cards or a computer link capability while others will simply store the files on the voice recorder until you delete them. Being able to transfer files will probably mean that the price of the voice recorder will be more expensive.

4. Pick your extra amenities. Several voice recorders will also work as digital music players, FM radio tuners or flash memory drives. The extras will of course bump up the price.

5. Select how much memory you need. The more memory a digital voice recorder has, the longer recording time it will offer and the less often you will have to clean it off. Memory is also important to remember if you are planning to use the voice recorder as a music player or storage device.

6. Ask to try the voice recorder before you buy it. Some voice recorders can cost well over a hundred dollars, so make sure it is exactly what you want before you buy it. Keep in mind the placement of the buttons and the battery life as well.
