3. Learn a second language to help improve your employment opportunities. The insurance market is very global and if you want to work as an insurance product manager, language skills will help set you apart from other applicants. Consider learning Spanish if you want to work in the United States so that you can help manage multicultural insurance offerings.
4. Apply to an MBA program to learn the business and management skills you need to work as a successful product manager. Study analyze market trends from a product prospective and learn how different factors influence insurance products and consumer confidence.
5. Work your way up in the insurance industry as an alternative to graduate school. Smaller firms may provide you with more opportunities to move up into managerial positions. Expect to have about 10 years of experience in insurance development and marketing before you are eligible for management positions at a large company.
6. Stay up to date on how insurance products can be marketed through the Internet. Grassroots and Internet marketing knowledge could help you land a specialized product manager position at a large company.
7. Take a certification course to become a registered product manager. These courses are offered by a variety of professional and private organizations and are open to people of all work backgrounds.
