Have An Ad Within The Phonebook

If you're ready to begin a new business and want a more permanent form of advertising than fliers, the telephone directory is a good place to begin. You can choose to draw attention in your listing by using bold font or other options, but an ad in the phone book will draw in much more business.

Instructions

1. Find out when the advertisement is due by calling the telephone directory publisher. If you get several phone books throughout the year, check the due date for each. It may help you decide which directory to target.

2. Consider what category you want to be listed under. In order to run an effective advertisement, you must choose the directory listing that is most appropriate for your business.

3. Create an advertisement that will stand out, particularly if you're in a business that has a lot of competition. Bigger can be better in this case, but might not be affordable your first year. However you design it, keep the ad uncluttered, making your name and all pertinent information prominent.

4. Use the ad to feature one aspect of your service. It's easier to replicate that same aspect over and over if customers flock to you for it. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't mention all the services that you offer. It means that you should highlight your best.

5. Check on the price from several telephone directories. If one phone directory is much more popular than the others, consider that as you get quotes. See if you can negotiate the price with the directory that you choose.

6. Inquire about an online ad. You may be able to get a special that involves a free or low cost online ad with your directory advertisement.
