Write a Technical Resume
Developers, programmers, analysts or other IT professionals who are looking for work need to write a technical resume. Writing a resume for a technical position is slightly different than a standard resume. However if you know the proper format, you can create an effective resume.
Instructions
1. Start with your name, address and telephone number centered at the top of the paper. This information needs to be accurate as this is the way prospective employers can contact you.
2. State a clear objective under the heading of "Objective" or "Goal." The objective should be geared toward the position you are applying for and not be longer than two or three sentences.
3. Create a section entitled "Summary of Skills." Under this heading, include several subheadings such as "Personal Computing", "Networking" and "Programming."
4. Make a bulleted list in each subsection that includes specific programs and applications. If you find that your summary of skills area is too lengthy, you can make a separate page of your resume for this section.
5. List your employment history from the most recent and work back. Include dates of employment, the name of the company and your job title. Underneath each job, include details to highlight your responsibilities and job duties.
6. Include a section for training and qualifications. This area should include any formal training, qualifications, certifications or degrees held. Unlike other resumes that may just list college degrees, it is important that your technical resume includes this additional information. Employers are oftentimes looking for employees that are certified or trained in specific applications and programs.
7. Conclude with a list of three references. Be sure to include telephone numbers and email addresses to make it easier for the hiring manager to contact your references.
