Officemax Charitable Foundation Scholarship grants

OfficeMax Incorporated, a provider of office solutions and retail office products, has stated its commitment to work within communities to build a better future. The company is a contributor in the field of education, making funds available for an array of scholarships. This is part of the company's corporate philosophy of "giving back," as reflected on its website.

The Families of Freedom Scholarship

In 2001, OfficeMax pledged $1 million toward college scholarships for the families of rescue workers who died during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. OfficeMax Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company, made the endowment.

The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund assists students, the children of rescue workers killed or disabled during the terrorist attacks, who need financial help for post-secondary studies. The Fund awarded the first scholarships in 2002 and provides scholarship funding through the year 2030. Scholarship America administers the Fund.

California University of Pennsylvania Scholarship

The California University of Pennsylvania (CAL U) is the recipient of an annual $5,000 scholarship awarded by OfficeMax. The scholarship is non-renewable and is for full-time undergraduate studies.

A CAL U student with a minimum of 30 university credits, a 3.5 or higher grade point average, and a major in accounting, business administration, finance or management qualifies for consideration for this scholarship. The University also considers the student's financial situation, a 500-word essay and faculty references.

All accepted and enrolled CAL U students are eligible for all scholarships.

The OfficeMax Scholarship at Scranton

The OfficeMax Scholarship is an endowed award offered by The University of Scranton, a Jesuit university in Pennsylvania. The Financial Aid Office at Scranton evaluates the financial needs of qualified students in determining who should receive this scholarship. The University awards full-tuition and partial-tuition scholarships based on academic merit.

Scholarship recipients must fulfill certain requirements to maintain their awards, including a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and completion of full-time studies within six academic years and part-time studies within 12 academic years.

Northern Illinois University Business Scholarship

Northern Illinois University College of Business scholarships include an OfficeMax lifetime commitment award valued at between $10,000 and $49,999. Scholarship funds derive from the interest income, thereby preserving the principal so future students benefit from scholarship awards.

The College of Business dates back to 1951 and is among "BusinessWeek's" 2010 ranking of the best undergraduate business schools in the nation.
