The HVLP gun is used for spraying paint. You can paint the inside or outside of a home, building, or vehicle without taking too much time. The HVLP gun eliminates many hours spent using a roller and brush on large projects. Yet, after using the gun so many times it will need to be cleaned for it to continue to perform to the best of its ability. Cleaning the gun can take up to an hour.
Instructions
1. Remove the cap on the HVLP spray gun. This is located around the nozzle. It is a black ring and is easily removed by turning it counterclockwise. Take off the nozzle to the gun. You can either twist it off or it will pop off depending on the brand you have.
2. Soak the cap and nozzle. Use lacquer thinner or varnish in a glass bowl. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then scrub with a toothbrush to remove any left over dirt on the cap and nozzle. Sit it on an old rag to dry.
3. Remove the nozzle plate. This is the metal piece that sits behind the nozzle. Pop it out to remove it. If it is hard to remove then use a flathead screwdriver to pop it out. Residue accumulates and makes it hard to remove the plate. Place the plate into the bowl of thinner or varnish and let it soak until you finish the next step.
4. Use a wrench to remove the fluid adjuster. This is located on the back of the spray gun on the lower ring. Then place it into the bowl to soak. Remove the air valve spring and fluid adjust guide from the back of the HVLP spray gun. These are located where the fluid adjuster was. To remove the fluid adjust guide turn it counterclockwise after pulling out the spring. Remove the fluid needle spring and then clean these off with a cloth dampened with lacquer thinner or varnish.
5. Remove the needle carefully. The needle is a long thin metal piece with a very delicate needle at its end. The back of the needle will be facing the back of the gun and will be visible after removing the spring. Push the trigger of the gun to push it out the back enough to pull it out with tweezers. Be careful with the needle and do not drop it. It can easily damage.
6. Dampen the rag with lacquer thinner or varnish. Wipe down the entire spray gun. Use the toothbrush to scrub off any remaining dirt on the pieces you removed. Then wipe everything dry. Reassemble the HVLP gun.
