Change An Mwf Wise Water Filtration

The refrigerator water filter should be changed every six months.

Certain models of General Electric and other brand refrigerators include a built in water filter. The water filter provides high quality water to a refrigerator's water dispenser and ice maker. One commonly used filter in these refrigerators is the GE SmartWater Replacement Water Filter MWF. SmartWater Replacement Filters can be used to replace other brand-name filters in refrigerators, including Culligan, Hotpoint and Kenmore.

Instructions

1. Locate the water filter inside your refrigerator. On most models, the filter is located at the back of the refrigerator section in the upper, right-hand corner.

2. Remove the existing filter by turning it to the left. The filter will release and drop down after about one-half of a full turn. Keep a hand under the filter and do not tip it. The filter is full of water.

3. Fill the new filter with water. Starting with a full filter will allow water to run through the refrigerator water system without sputtering or gurgling.

4. Screw the new water filter into position, turning to the right in reverse of the removal turn. The filter will lift up into position. The General Electric website warns against overtightening the filter. It takes about one-half turn to fully install the filter.

5. Reset the filter warning light if the refrigerator is equipped with one. Press the "Reset Water Filter" pad until the light turns from red to green, approximately three seconds. If the refrigerator does not have a filter light, put the included month and year sticker on the filter before installing.

6. Run the refrigerator water dispenser for approximately three minutes to clear the system.
