Laser printers are popular, useful machines--but like any machine, they require sort of maintenance from time to time to continue to do their job. The life-blood of a laser printer is the toner cartridge; and when it runs out, you must either have it replaced, or you can choose to refill it yourself.
Instructions
1. Purchase a refill kit. The refill kit comes with everything that you need to refill the toner cartridge. The kit should have instructions, some toner, a tool that burns a hole into the toner cartridge, and some sort of tape (usually aluminum) to cover the hole. Different model cartridges may have specific instructions, but all have the same basic idea behind them. These kits are available in many online office equipment outlet stores, like TonerRefillKits.com.
2. Use the toner hole making tool to create a hole in the toner cartridge. The tool is an electrical appliance that heats up to a certain temperature. This hole-maker will literally burn a hole through the plastic wall of the cartridge. Depending on the type of cartridge, the appropriate position of the hole will vary. Specific instructions for this will be included in with your kit. Be careful not to burn yourself as these tools can get very hot.
3. Pour the toner into the newly created hole. Depending on the kit, you may be provided with a funnel or the container hold the replacement toner will have a cone-shaped opening for ease of pouring. Try to find a well ventilated area to do this in to reduce exposure to fumes. For extra protection, a dust mask may be worn.
4. Use the sealing tape provided in the kit to cover the hole.
