Call A Mexican Telephone Number

If you want to book hotel reservations, contact a business associate or say hello to a friend who is visiting Mexico, you will need to call a Mexican phone number. Calling Mexico isn't difficult once you know how, and with a little advance preparation need not be expensive. You'll need to know the format to make a Mexican phone call and get good calling rates to places like Cancun and Mexico City.

Instructions

1. Acquaint yourself with the numbering system used in Mexico to avoid wrong numbers. Area codes in Mexico can be either two or three digits. For example, the area code for Mexico City is 53 and for Cancun 998. The local phone number is either seven or eight digits. The area code and phone number always total 10 digits. However, if you are calling a cell phone, you must place a 1 in front of the area code.

2. Call a Mexican phone number by first dialing the international access code (011 for the United States and Canada).

3. Dial the country code for Mexico, which is 52.

4. Dial the area code (place a 1 in front of the area code if you are calling a cell phone number) and finally the phone number. For example, to call a family member vacationing in Cancun from the US, dial 011 + 52 + 998 + (seven-digit number).
