Improve Company Honours

Changing the award can improve company recognition programs and improve morale.

Company awards often are given for excellent job performance. These awards can vary from a certificate to the employee's name written on a company board. Simple awards provide recognition to employees, but there is room for improvement. Improving company awards start with changing the process and the actual award.

Instructions

1. Permit peer recognition. Allowing peers to reward each other for performance boosts morale and employee interaction. Give employees certificates that they can present to each other.

2. Award money for performance. Employees will be more motivated to achieve when there is a monetary value attached to the company award.

3. Provide gifts along with certificates. Tangible items such as a pin, mug, T-shirt or other items along with a certificate or plaque improves the award to being functional and memorable.

4. Present awards immediately. Don't delay awarding employees for service, performance or attendance. Delays take away the importance of the award for the employee. Make sure certificates, plaques and gifts are in stock.

5. Implement awards for various reasons not just performance. Because some jobs do not allow specific employees to compete for awards, create a situation to honor those types of employees. For example, it is difficult for a receptionist to win a sales award because she does not make sales, but she provides a valuable service. She might never be absent, so provide an award for attendance.
