The chelada is a Mexican beer cocktail. You can make a traditional chelada, which is non-spicy, with just a few simple ingredients. If you prefer spice, just add a few extra items to the basic recipe.
Some beer makers have now started selling pre-mixed versions of the chelada. These mixtures contain clam juice and tomato juice and are a middle-ground variation between the basic and spicy chelada.
Instructions
1. Run lime juice around the rim so salt will stick, then turn glass upside down and twist it around in a tub of rim salt. Rim salt is more coarsely grained than table salt and is available at beverage and liquor stores.
2. Fill glass halfway with ice and pour beer to top. Light lagers are best for this recipe.
3. Squeeze in the juice of half a small lime. Stop here for a traditional chelada.
4. Add additional ingredients for a spicy chelada. To the basic mixture above, add two dashes of Worcestershire sauce, two dashes of soy sauce, two dashes of hot sauce and a dash of black pepper.
