Weighted grade point averages take into account the value of classes that grade students on a 5.0 scale rather than the traditional 4.0 scale. The weighted scale makes 5.0 the highest GPA possible because it takes into account honors classes that give students extra points. Students with many honors classes can have their more challenging classes taken into account by applying for scholarships that consider a weighted scale GPA. Each scholarship's requirements are different but generally require a minimum GPA and letters of reference.
