Barn conversions benefit from good planning.
When a rural landscapes changes and new structures are put up, a converted barn helps preserve some of the previous architecture. Although the process can be rewarding, it is expensive, and there are many challenges to overcome.
Layout
Many who convert barns to homes are attracted by the open interior. To preserve this, it plan an open layout. For privacy, you can add another level or another separate structure. Window location will matter if you are dividing the interior. You can use semitransparent walls to bring light in to spaces further inward.
Support and Stability
Depending on the age of the barn, techniques used to build it may have caused uneven support. There may also be weather and pest damage, particularly in abandoned barns. The foundation should be checked for stability. If you want to add levels or change the layout, you might need more frame support. Research local building code regulations.
Utilities
Barns usually have the bare minimum for animal comfort. Utilities and insulation will probably require additional work.
