Host a fashion show open to the community for a charity event.
Many charities depend upon donations to keep running. Annual charity events are an effective way to bring attention to a cause and raise money for those in need. Focus on planning an event that is entertaining for everyone in attendance. You want donors to be in a good mood and feel inspired to support your charity. While planning takes hard work and dedication, these events can be quite successful fundraisers.
Silent Auction
Set up silent auctions at charity events. Ask area businesses, sports teams and community members to donate single items or baskets of items for auction. Place sheets of paper next to each item with a minimum starting bid. Bidders simply write down their bids along with their names and phone numbers (or register their personal information first and are given a number to write down instead of their name to remain anonymous). The highest bidder gets the item.
Pie in the Face
In the workplace, find volunteers with top management and executive positions in the company. Set up collection jars for each candidate. Workers place money in the jars of the ones they want to see have a pie thrown in their face. The one with the most money in his jar is the winner (or loser, in this case). Draw names to choose an employee to be the "thrower."
Fashion Show
Collaborate with local clothing stores or boutiques in organizing a fashion show. Include wedding and prom dresses, children's clothing and apparel that appeals to many people. Spice things up and lighten the mood by ending the fashion show with a procession of men modeling women's clothing. Charge a specific admission price, or ask for donations. Other fundraising activities can surround the show, such as a silent auction and food concessions.
Walk-a-Thon/5k Race
Host an event that promotes good health and gets participants moving. Appeal to active runners by hosting a 5k or 10k race. After runners take off from the starting line, let others who aren't into running but still want to help raise money participate in a walk-a-thon. Set a registration fee, and give T-shirts and refreshments to all participants. Conclude with awards.
Sporting Event
Sports tournaments attract those who want to participate in some friendly competition to support those in need. Ideas include softball, golf, basketball, bowling and tennis tournaments. Ask local television and radio personalities to play a game against each other to draw a crowd. Charge an entry fee per team or individual player, and include other fundraising activities at the event for spectators.
Concert/Dance
Ask popular local bands to play for a community concert and dance. Charge for admission, and focus on a more elegant affair or a more family-oriented event welcoming kids. Make room for a dance floor and a refreshment table. A silent auction can be set up, too. Post the band's playlist and accept donations for song requests.
Art Sale
Check with art galleries and area artists to receive donated pieces for an art sale benefiting charity. Create a fun twist by also selling donated art from elementary, middle and high school art students or art club members. People are often looking for unique art to decorate homes and offices.
