Make a Free Search Engine


Search engines can be found in many different forms on the Internet. Building your own search engine allows you to create a search engine designed to meet your specific needs. By building your own search engine you can narrow the sites that are searched to a few specific sites or the whole Internet. Google provides the capability to create your own search engine using the services that are used for the Google search engine.


Instructions


1. Open the Web browser and navigate to "Google Custom Search Engine." (See References 1)


2. Enter your Google username and password and click the button labeled "Sign in".


3. Enter the name you wish to call your search engine into the text box labeled "Search Engine Name".


4. Enter a short description about your search engine into the text box labeled "Search Engine Description".


5. Enter websites for the search engine to index in the text box labeled "Sites to Search."


6. Acknowledge you have read and agree to Google's terms of service by checking the check box. Click on the "Next" button to continue.


7. Click on the button labeled "Finish" to complete the creation of your search engine.


8. Click on the link "Control Panel" adjacent to the name of the search engine you created.


9. Click on the link labeled "homepage" under the title "Basic Information" to access the page hosting your new search engine. Bookmark the page in your browser to use the search engine from any computer.
