Start A Web-based Game Club Site

The beginning address to reach your game club website.

Online game clubs allow players from around the world to discuss and possibly play the same game or similar games of your choosing. You all can trade strategies, techniques and even the latest hardware to enjoy the game-playing experience. Even if you lack technical know-how, you can have a website set up for gamers to subscribe to in a short amount of time.

Instructions

1. Select a domain name for your website. A domain name is the address that your subscribers will type into the web browser to access your website. For example, "yourgameclub.com" would be a domain name. The price for domain names vary. Expect to pay as little as $1.99 to $12 per year to register your domain name. Godaddy.com is an example of a domain name provider.

2. Choose a web host for your site. Web hosts have invested in purchasing multiple servers for you to have enough memory to maintain all the content and traffic that will come to your website. Web hosts can be as little as $3 per month to over $100 dollars per month. Start small with an inexpensive web provider to determine what type of traffic you will generate before paying more money for web hosting. Ehostpros.com is an example of a web host provider.

3. Determine if your site will be centered around one specific game or multiple games. If your site will be centered around one game, gather as much information as possible about the game so your subscribers will have continual information they can access. If your site is based on multiple games, expect to spend more time gathering information about each game you will include in the club.

4. Select a web designer to create a subscriber-based website. A subscriber-based website, also known as a membership site, will require your users to create a username and password to join. This process simulates a club that is exclusive to certain members. You can post your project on a freelance website where each freelancer will bid on your project based on your budget and their expertise (see Resources).

5. Find subscribers for your website. Advertise in forums online to get new subscribers to join your club and also use techniques like search engine optimization and Google AdWords. Google AdWords is based on your budget, but it does cost money. You can also advertise your website using online magazines and banner ads. Hire a graphic designer to create your marketing materials by going to a freelance bidding site (see Resources).
