Be A Magazine Art Director

From popular magazines, such as Vogue to Rolling Stone, their symbolic front covers that have represented pieces of history are all due to the creativity of an art director. The appearance of a magazine is half of a magazine's success, where majority of readers are attracted toward captivating photographs and artwork. This is all managed and composed through the art director. Magazine art directors are high in positions and aren't simply given the job after schooling. Many had to start from the bottom and work their way up just like many other careers.

Instructions

1. Study some form of graphic design, whether it be drawing, art, computer design, and so forth. Many community colleges or technical schools have short-term programs for these degrees.

2. Along with schooling in graphic design, a knowledge in various relevant computer programs is an important asset.

3. Create a professional portfolio showing your experiences and expertise. These examples will show employers your abilities and skills.

4. Gain experiences through internships or through the art schooling. Choose internships with magazine companies. Some schools have connections with some magazines and help with attaining these internships.

5. Work your way up throughout your career. Most magazine art directors begin as assistants and must work their way up by gaining more experience with the company.
