Launch Something New

The launch of a new product is often an indicator of its future success. Investors, executives and employees want to see the time and money spent in research and development pay off, so you need to strive for a successful product debut.

Instructions

Prepare for a Successful Product Launch

1. Start advertising the new product several weeks to a month before its launch. Depending on your target market, you may only need to alert your current customers to have a successful debut. Some items, like children's toys, should only be advertised once they are in stores so consumers can buy them shortly after seeing an ad.

2. Coordinate press releases to create a buzz in local and regional media. Journalists love quirky stories, so think about the news value of your product or company. For example, maybe you are the only security-scanner company in the area or are releasing a product that uses a very new technology.

3. Analyze the expected demand of your product so you don't over- or under-shoot your initial product run. Account for sales based on returning customers, media attention and advertising. With some new products, it is often beneficial to inform the public of how many units will be available at launch.

4. Hold a press conference to announce your new product and its release date. This marketing trick requires your product to create such a buzz that consumers and the media talk about it until the launch.

5. Create a website where the curious consumer can learn all about your product. The Internet can be a great place to post deep product specifications that look and feel out of place in an advertisement. Also, include an area where potential customers can post questions about the item.

6. Send out demo units of high-tech gadgets to large newspapers and trade magazines. A review will not only give you some free publicity, you'll also get some general feedback about problems that you may want to correct prior to the launch.
