Using a Mizar gold tester allows you to check the purity of gold.
The Mizar gold tester is designed to determine the purity of a gold sample, which in turn can help determine its value. But as with any piece of test equipment, the results provided by the Mizar gold tester are only as good as the technique used by the tester. To ensure accurate results every time, you need to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the equipment. Failure to follow those instructions could result in both inaccurate results and gold values.
Instructions
1. Turn the Mizar gold tester on and adjust it for the type of gold you are testing. The power should be turned up for green or yellow gold and down for pink or white gold. The Mizar gold tester has two settings -- a high setting for green and yellow gold and a low setting for pink and white gold.
2. Ensure that the "Not Gold" light is lit before proceeding. Place exactly one drop of ET18 activator fluid into the test well, followed by exactly three drops of ET18 electrolyte. The activator fluid must be in place before you add the electrolyte.
3. Clean the gold thoroughly before the test. The gold to be tested must be clean and smooth for the test to be effective. Use the eraser that came with the Mizar gold tester to clean the piece.
4. Connect the alligator clip from the Mizar gold tester to the gold to be tested. Immerse the test gold into the liquid in the well. Be careful not to touch the reference gold at the bottom of the machine. Also be careful to not get the alligator clip wet. If the alligator clip is accidentally immersed in the fluid, it must be carefully dried before reuse.
5. Keep the test gold in the liquid well for two seconds. Watch for the karat value to be displayed on the Mizar gold tester. Remove the test gold and wipe off the remaining fluid with a paper towel or soft cloth.
