Make Use Of A Mic In Yahoo Messenger With Home windows Vista

Yahoo! Messenger, originally released as Yahoo! Pager, is an instant messaging program and client developed by Yahoo!. Anyone with a Yahoo! ID, such as those used for Yahoo! Mail or Flickr, can use Yahoo! Messenger. While Yahoo! Messenger is primarily used for communication between two computers and users, you can also use it to call telephone services if you have the correct services available to you. You can use a microphone or headset to speak to your friends, family or colleagues, if you prefer. A microphone saves you having to type your conversation to your partner.

Instructions

1. Make sure your microphone is connected to the microphone port on the front or back of your computer (a symbol of a microphone will be next to the port). If your microphone has an on "Off" switch, switch it to "On."

2. Open Yahoo! Messenger by clicking "Start," "All Programs" then "Yahoo! Messenger."

3. Click "Messenger," then "Preferences." Click "Calling and Audio."

4. Click the "Open the Call Setup Assistant" button. Click "Next" to confirm setup assistant.

5. Choose your microphone from the "Choose the microphone…" dropdown menu. Read the sentence "I can see the colored dots light up as I speak into my microphone" as is displayed on screen. You should see the rectangles light up as you speak. Click "Next" if "You've successfully configured your microphone" appears. If your microphone did not work, follow the detection prompts.

6. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your speakers, then click "Finish." You have now set up your microphone for use with Yahoo! Messenger.
