This will provide you with an excellent way to network and possibly gain more customers in the process. Invite the business owners over for a get-together. You'll have the chance to find out about their current customers. It can also be a good way to get additional business help when you need it most. Getting to know fellow business owners by their first names and the type of businesses they run can help you build business relationships. They'll be able to easily recognize you because of this personal connection.


2. Establish a solid business reputation. Customers are more willing to do business with someone who is reliable and truthful. Other business owners also look for these qualities when referring their existing customers to someone else. An easy way to build a positive reputation for your business is to keep your word. If you set an appointment with a fellow business owner, then follow through with it. Since actions speak louder than words, you'll need to set a great example. Failing to keep promises, appointments or anything else will cause others to doubt your sincerity. The foundation for every strong business relationship is credibility.


3. Create a lucrative referral system. Business owners who have a strong referral system increase their profits greatly. Offer a discount program to customers who are referred by other businesses. Not only will this offer these new customers incentives for supporting your business, it will also encourage other business owners to guide their customers your way. Operating a referral system is not a one-way street. You'll also need to refer some of your customers to the other businesses that participate in your referral system.


4. Be fully accessible to others. Customers love having instant access to a business when they run into problems. If you are not able to be available to help them around the clock, then hire a staff to do it. Make your business easy to reach by phone, fax, email or in person. To accomplish this, consider leaving contact information posted inside and outside of your business. It will also be very helpful to include some of this same information on printed receipts. Fellow business owners will happily inform their customers about your excellent customer service. The reliability level of your business will increase tremendously because of this. If a potential customer does not feel that you are servicing him properly, then he won't stick around to give you long-term business.
