Find Texas Grants for Disabilities
According to the Texas Council for Development Disabilities (TCDD), approximately 437,885 Texans have development disabilities (as of 2010). Texas grants for disabilities work to provide the necessary funds to support these individuals through education, activities and work programs. In addition to helping people with disabilities and their families, organizations may use funds to improve community awareness on disability topics.
Texas Council for Development Disabilities
In Texas, TCDD oversees 35 to 50 disability grants for Texans. Averaging $3.5 million in funds (as of 2010), the organization provides the money for a variety of programs from direct service demonstration projects to leadership and advocacy training. In the past, TCDD grants have funded programs including Self Determination for Texas, Peer to Peer Self Advocacy Training, Positive Behavior Supports Project and Family-Based Alternatives Expansion Project.
To apply for a grant, a process known as writing a request for proposal (RFP), you can visit txddc.state.tx.us and download an application packet. Most projects have application deadlines, so note them when you browse through the list. Also be sure to fully complete the application for each project to avoid delays.

If you're looking for information on available grants, subscribe to a specific service offering this type of listing. The Secretary of State (SOS) provides access to the "Texas Register," a weekly publication used by organizations such as TCDD to announce new disability grant projects.
The SOS provides an online database of publications for up to one year, and you can access the current weekly edition at its website, sos.state.tx.us/texreg/subinfo.shtml. If you prefer to get your information in printed format, subscribe to the "Texas Register" for a fee. While the SOS hosts the information, it has a standard disclaimer stating, "The Secretary of State is not responsible for the information or content that is contained in Texas Register notices. Nor does the SOS make any representations as to sufficiency or accuracy of the posted information."
Texas State Grants Team
The Texas State Grants Team acts as a liaison to increase the state's access to federal funding, including federal grants for disabilities. While the department does not award grants or provide financial assistance, it can help you find programs and in some cases can offer additional information pertaining to specific grants for disabilities.
Overseen by the State Grants Team, the Texas Review and Comment System (TRACS) coordinates the review of Texas organizations to ensure each organization is in compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to the use of Texas grants for disabilities. The state offers information detailing this process at its website at governor.state.tx.us/grants/.
