Instructions
1. Cut the wood to the desired overall size on the table saw. The plaque can be as small or as large as you desire, but 6 by 6 inches is a good size for a first attempt.
2. Use the router and selected router bit to shape the edges of the plaque to a pleasing profile. This will give the plaque a "raised" look.
3. Use stencils and a pencil to trace the letters for the words on your plaque. Be sure to space the letters evenly and in a straight line for a professional look.
4. Attach a lettering tip to your wood burner pen, plug it in and let it warm up. Use the pen to burn your letters into the plaque by following the penciled outline.
5. Brush or rub several coats of polyurethane over the surface of your plaque. This will ensure that the lettering remains clear for years.
6. Glue an engraved brass plate to your wooden plaque using super glue. These plates can be picked up from any trophy shop and are reasonably priced. They can be engraved for a few cents per letter and can include the recipient's name and the date, if desired.
