Tax preparers in California must be registered with the CTEC.
The California Tax Education Council (CTEC) requires tax preparers to be registered. Tax preparers must complete a qualifying education course that has been evaluated and approved by the CTEC. This is a 60-hour course. Renewing the registration requires completing an approved continuing education course--20 hours of continuing education are required each year.
A+ Tax Educators
A+ Tax Educators offers both the qualifying and the continuing education tax courses. In addition, it offers several four-hour courses, including Residential Rentals and Selling Your Home for Federal Taxes. Electronic course materials are provided to the student but a hard copy of the course materials can be sent for an extra fee. Students will have six months to take the exam for the course.
