"D & G" stands for "Dolce & Gabbana," which represents a clothing, footwear, accessories and fragrances empire whose products are sold worldwide. The Dolce & Gabbana brand is synonymous with luxury and glamor. Celebrities like Victoria and David Beckham, Madonna, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren are among the famous patrons.
Starting Line
Two Italian designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, formed their Milan-based business partnership in 1985. Their line of perfumes was a natural progression to complement their timeless "Dolce & Gabbana" fashion wear and their more casual and trendy "D & G" clothing line.
First Up
Dolce & Gabbana perfumes have achieved international recognition, starting with the debut of their first "Dolce & Gabbana" classic perfume for women, launched in 1994. The contents of this perfume include jasmine, carnation, sweet orange blossom and lily. It is suggested for evening use and special occasions.
"By"
In 1998, Dolce & Gabbana launched "By," which combines vanilla, sandalwood, tiger lily and cedarwood among the ingredients.
"Feminine"
In 1999, Dolce & Gabbana introduced its "Feminine" perfume. It was a dual launch, the counterpart product being "Masculine" for men. The ingredients in "Feminine" include water lily, tangerine, white cyclamen and mimosa.
"Light Blue" and "Sicily"
In 2001, the company promoted "Light Blue" perfume, which portrays the sparkle of the Mediterranean life. This perfume includes cedar, apple, bluebells, jasmine, bamboo and white rose. The company launched "Sicily" in 2003, promoted as an elegant and sophisticated floral scent encompassing "the radiance of the Mediterranean." These two perfumes were apparently inspired by the designers' Mediterranean roots.
"The One"
In 2007, Dolce & Gabbana created a fragrance for "the ultimate diva" and named it, appropriately, "The One." Peach, lychee, jasmine, muguet, madonna lily and musk are among the ingredients.
"Anthology Collection"
"The Anthology Collection" debuted in September 2009. The perfumes in the collection are named after individual Tarot cards. They are Le Bateleur (The Magician), L'Imperatrice (The Empress), L'Amoureux (The Lovers), La Roue de la Fortune (The Wheel of Fortune) and La Lune (The Moon). The promotional campaign is built around several supermodels, including Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Eva Herzigova, posing in the nude.
