Search engine
optimization (more commonly referred to as SEO) is the process of enhancing a website to display at the top position in the results of an Internet search for a specific keyword. Each individual search engine uses a specific algorithm to determine a website's position in a list of search results. Search engines do not publicly disclose their algorithms, but broad factors that affect the positioning have been uncovered by webmasters.
Instructions
1. Fill your web page with highly relevant content. Think about the typical web surfer's state of mind when they are searching for a particular keyword. Add content that gives the reader valuable information on the topic.
2. Place the keyword throughout the text on your website. To increase your ranking for a particular keyword phrase, that phrase should account for 3 to 7 percent of the total text on your website. Distribute the placement of keywords throughout the text in a natural way, using them in title tags, headings, and towards the beginning, middle, and end of the website's text.
3. Create links to your website on other websites by using anchor text. Post comments on related blogs with the keyword you are targeting, displaying as a link to your website. Text that contains your keyword and links back to your site is known as anchor text and plays a vital role in increasing your positions in search engines.
4. Update your website regularly. Regular updates to your website will ensure that the reader is receiving current information. Search engine's algorithms recognize this as well---your position in the results will rise and maintain its spot.
