Soccer, tennis and baseball are just a few sports offered by California schools.
California schools offer sports programs in baseball, football, basketball, soccer, track and more. Grants are available for renovation, and facilities and field maintenance, and to help purchase player equipment, team equipment and uniforms. Funding comes from a variety of sources including local community and corporate foundations. Area major league teams in football, baseball and basketball also offer grants to local schools and sports organizations.
LA84 Foundation
The LA84 Foundation administers a sports grant program for schools and nonprofits in Southern California. Schools and organizations must be located in one of the following counties to be eligible to apply: Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura. Special interests include programs that serve girls, disabled children or at-risk youth ages 6 to 17. Grant amounts vary, but the average award is $10,000 or less. Recent recipients include Boyle Heights Youth Football and Temple City Youth Football.

NFL Youth Football Fund
The NFL Youth Football Fund was established by the National Football League (NFL) and the NFL Players Association to support football programs and projects in areas where NFL teams existed. The NFL Youth Football Fund sponsors an annual NFL Grassroots Field Grant competition. Grant applications are accepted from community organizations, middle schools and high schools across the country. General Field Support grants are awarded in amounts up to $50,000 and may be used for projects that are not field-related. This includes installation or maintenance of bleachers, concession stands and lighting. Field Surface Grants are awarded in amounts up to $200,000 for field maintenance, installation or renovations. Deadlines vary annually. Schools in California must be located near an NFL team to apply for funding. This includes the San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders.

Baseball Tomorrow Fund
The Baseball Tomorrow Fund was established by Major League Baseball (MLB) to provide funding to youth baseball and softball organizations across the United States, including California. School districts and community nonprofit groups and baseball/softball groups are eligible to apply. Although no grant maximum exists, average grants awarded are less than $40,000. In most cases, at least 50 percent of the project's funding must come from another source. Grant inquiries are accepted anytime and will be acknowledged within one month.
