When a propane tank is empty, homeowners can purchase a refill at many gas stations.
Gas grills rely on one of two fuel options: liquid propane or natural gas. Although 85% of gas grills rely on propane, homeowners have to consider different installation and usage requirements for both sources.
Source
Homeowners must purchase or refill liquid propane tanks when they are empty. Natural gas does not require refills because the source is the home's existing natural gas supply. Although homeowners must pay for new propane tanks periodically, they will also experience an increase in their natural gas bills.
Portability
Many grills have a space for the tank below the grilling surface. This allows the the homeowner to move the grill. However, in order to use natural gas as a fuel source, the grill will connect to the natural gas lines and must remain in close proximity.
Installation
Liquid propane tanks easily connect to appliances such as an outdoor grill via simple twist connectors. Homeowners must install a connection to the current natural gas lines to allow the grill to connect to the supply.
Fuel Supply
Because a grill that uses natural gas taps into the home's existing lines, it will never run out of fuel during cooking. However, liquid propane tanks may become depleted and require replacement during use.
