Medical Staffing Information

Medical staffing pertains to how well staffed a medical organization is. This is measured by analyzing whether a company has an appropriate number of medical positions, and how many of them are filled. Medical organizations that are understaffed risk not being able to fulfill all of their patients' needs.


Effects


How well an organization is staffed affects the quality of care delivered to patients. Health care companies develop workforce positions based on what they determine to be necessary. For instance, a hospital, based on an analysis of patient numbers, might determine that 50 registered nurses are required for the hospital to run effectively.


Types


Medical staffing relates to all types of medical positions, including, but not limited to, physicians, nurses, physicians' assistants, therapists, medical coders, medical billing specialists and administrative personnel.


Recruitment


Medical organizations that need to fill staff positions have the option of recruiting for positions in-house or using a medical staffing agency, which is paid to find suitable candidates to fill open positions.


Considerations


Even when a medical organization is well staffed, a medical company may need to use temporary personnel from staffing agencies if a sudden influx of work must be done and regular staff do not wish to work overtime.
