CN operates the only transcontinental rail network in North America.
Canadian National Railway (CN) is Canada's rail freight provider and offers shipping services across Canada and throughout North America. In addition to its rail services, CN offers truck transportation for some goods to get your items to a rail-loading location. CN ships items ranging from boxes and automobiles to bulk commodities and hazardous materials. Certain materials, such as bulk liquids, require more notice and preparation for shipment than others. As of October 2010, rates for shipping a 50-foot rail container between Vancouver and Montreal, for example, start at $2,173.
Instructions
1. Write down the details about the item(s) that you want to ship. You must know the weight and dimensions of the item that you want to ship before you contact CN. You should also be able to describe the type of item that you're shipping.
2. Contact CN. Call the CN sales center at 888-668-4626.
3. Describe your shipping needs to the sales agent. You must give a description of your item, as well as your location, the shipping destination and the date of shipping. You can also arrange to have your item picked up by truck and brought to the nearest CN rail location if you wish. The sales agent will organize payment with you at this time.
4. Bring your item to a CN rail location if you didn't arrange to have the item picked up from your location. The agent you speak to in the sales center can give you the information on when and where to bring your item.
