Business Visa Information

The business visa goes in your passport upon traveling to the United States.

Business visas are used when businesses need to get customers to the United States to conduct business. This particular type of visa can only be used for business or corporate purposes. The visa is treated like any other type of United States access visa, which requires a valid passport, travel documents and proven citizenship.

Business Visa Definition

A business visa is a document that allows a foreign individual to enter the United States on the sole grounds of conducting business. The document needs to be placed in the traveler's passport upon the journey to the United States, along with a travel document issued by the traveler's country of citizenship. The business visa is applicable to those travelers who come from a country that does not fall under the visa-free travel clause with the United States. To find out if your home country is a visa-free country, contact your local U.S. embassy or consulate. The business visa allows the traveler to come to the United States to consult with business associate, settle an estate, negotiate a contract or attend conventions, conferences or training that has a professional or academic purpose.

Companies and Business Visas

Companies or businesses operating outside of the United States may come to the country to do business with American companies or corporations. To enter the United States for the purpose of conducting business, the business executives may be subject to applying for a business visa as their primary visa when entering the United States. This visa should be applied for and obtained before the business executives board the plane to the United States.

Apply for a Business Visa

The business visa application must be completed in the home country of the traveler before travelling to the United States. Before the applicant can obtain the business visa to enter the United States, all of the requirements must be satisfied. The requirements will vary depending on the country the person is travelling from. The visa must be applied for at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The applicant must provide truthful individual facts on the application, so the visa satisfies the U.S. immigration laws.

Early Business Visa Application

The applicant should apply for the business visa well in advance of the trip. It is suggested that the visa should be obtained at least 60 days prior to the journey, so the application process can be approved in time. The Travel State website suggests applying no later than 90 days before the trip, if the travels are scientific in nature.
