Creating banners for a website is ideal when you want to promote your product or business. Banners are good source of advertising, and can be easily placed at the top or bottom of any website.
Instructions
1. Determine the type of banner that you want. Banners come in variety of sizes. One type of banner is a Leaderboard, which is about 729 pixels in width and 90 pixels in height. Extended Network banners are usually 475 wide x 70 pixels long. Long Extended Network Banners are slightly bigger, at 475 x 200. Full Horizontal Banners are sized at 468 x 60, while "Fat Square" Banners measure between 300 x 300 pixels evenly. There are also the skinny banners (500 x 40) and the popular skyscraper banner (120 x 600). Last but not least, there is also the choice of creating a Monster Banner, named for its enormous banner size of 728 x 400.
2. Select your photo editor. Open up your photo editing software and go to "Create new image." In this case we'll use Photoshop as the example. Once at the window for image sizes type in the selected size you desire and hit Enter. In Photoshop you should get a blank white area that's measured to the dimensions you typed in.
Microsoft Paint, found in the "Accessories" portion of most desktop computers, is a unique software to create website banners in because unlike other applications, when you open up the application, you're already given a white box that you can resize by clicking on the corners of the white box in the editing area. You can also skip this step by clicking "image" and then select "attributes" to type in exact dimensions for your banner.
3. Add your logo or message in the photo editor. Then create graphics using colors that will bring attention to the banner, but avoid making the banner "blink" too much or be over-animated. These types of banners are ignored because people have seen them for so many years now.
4. Consider online applications for creating your banner. There are a variety of websites on the Internet that can help you create your banners in an instant, without the worries and hassles of putting together everything from scratch. One of these websites is Mybannermaker.com. This site takes you through each step and it's simple enough for any novice banner maker to use.
Unfortunately, you cannot save this banner to your desktop in the free version. This version already creates the HTML code for you to install in a website. Another popular website for creating banners online is Flamingtext.com. This site also allows you to right click your banner and save it to your computer. No HTML code is provided for this service.
