We must conserve water in order to keep reservoirs from drying out.
Conserving water has many benefits and it is easy to do. Saving water decreases pollution, increases energy savings and creates better use of water resources. If we do not conserve water, we will continue to see more dried wells, reservoirs and river beds. It is predicted that the amount of fresh water will decrease by 33 percent over the next 50 years if we do not do a better job at conserving water.
Instructions
Saving Water
1. Take shorter showers. Shortening your shower time can save up to 30 gallons of water per day.
2. Purchase a water saving shower head. You can purchase one at any store that sells shower equipment. A new model shower head will range from 1.5 to 2.5 gallons per minute.
3. Turn off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth, shaving, and washing your face and hands. We often leave the water running when doing these activities without thinking of how much water we are wasting.
4. Repair leaks in pipelines and replace worn out washers and valves on pipes. Simply doing this can save up to 10 gallons of water per day day.
5. Recharge the softener on your septic system as little as possible in order to reduce water use and overloading your septic system.
6. Use mulch and shade netting in your garden in order to prevent evaporation. Mulch will help to keep the soil moist.
