Creating a code can be a fun and challenging exercise. You can use a secret code to send messages to friends or family, or you can just do it for fun. You can choose how complicated you want to make the code depending on what you want to use it for.
Instructions
Not Really a Code
1. Take a piece of plain white paper.
2. Write your note in lemon juice.
3. Hold the paper up to a light bulb and the message will be reveal. This isn't really a code, but it can still be fun and used to send secret messages. Plus it can be used in conjunction with the other methods to make a code even harder to break.
A Simple Code
4. Assign a value to each letter in the alphabet. A=1, B=2 or A=26, B=25 are a little two simple, and many people will figure those out in a second, so get creative with your code. If you can't think of anything you can borrow symbols from fonts like Wingdings.
5. Make the code a little harder to break by mixing up the letter orders. For example you can switch the first and last letters in a word that can make the code harder to break.
6. Draw a chart. It helps to write out the alphabet with each of the symbols next to them. Make sure you practice using the code so you can read and write in it quickly.
More Complicated Code
7. Choose a keyword. A keyword can be anything, but the longer the word is the more difficult the code is to break.
8. Match the keyword to the plain text. The plain text is what the original message is called. So for example if the plain text is "Hello my good friend" the key is "emily" you'll want to write out "Emily em ilye milyem"
9. Translate the key and plain text into the cipher text. The cipher text is the completed code. If each letter in the alphabet were give a value n, such that n is equal to the letters position in the alphabet (A=1, B=2, C=3 etc.) then the each letter in the cipher text is equal to the value of the key plus the value of the plain text minus one. If the key is emily and the plain text is hello then e = 5, h= 8. 5 + 8 -1 = 12 so the cipher text will start with the 12th letter in the alphabet l. the full word will be lqtwm. This code is very difficult to break without already having the keyword.
