Setup Wireless Printing In Vista

Set up wireless printing services on your Vista computer.

Windows Vista allows you to share your local printers to hardwired and wireless network users. Before you can share a printer for wireless users, you must turn on wireless printer sharing in your Vista system's configurations. When this setting is enabled, any user connected to the network is able to connect and print to your printer. This is beneficial for home or office users who have wireless laptops that need to use network print services.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows Vista "Start" button and click the "Control Panel" shortcut. Click the "Network and Internet" link in the Control Panel and then click "Network and Sharing Center." In this window, click "Change Adapter Settings." This opens a window with a list of your network adapters configured on your computer.

2. Double-click your wireless adapter icon. This opens a configuration window. Check the box labeled "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" to enable wireless print sharing for your Vista machine. Click "OK" to save your settings and close the properties window.

3. Scroll down the "Network and Sharing Center" window opened in Step 1 and select "Turn on printer sharing." Click "Apply" in this window to save your settings. Return to the main Control Panel window.

4. Click the link labeled "Hardware and Sound" and then click "Printers." This lists all the printers configured on your machine.

5. Right-click the printer you want to share and select "Sharing." Check the box labeled "Share this printer." Enter a friendly name for the printer in the text box provided. Click "OK" to finalize your wireless print sharing settings.
