Handle An Average Boss

An abusive boss can cause you to hate your job

Most people encounter at least one boss who is rude and impossible to work with. Landing a new job is exciting, yet this excitement can quickly diminish once you find out who the boss is. A malicious boss can make a person dislike going to work because of all the stress. Some people deal with an impossible boss by using a method that gets them fired. Fortunately, there are ways you can deal with a difficult boss without losing your job.

Instructions

1. Complete your work on time, don't be late for work and consistently show that you are a hard worker. Don't give your boss a reason to scold you for your work ethics. A boss may eventually appreciate an employee who demonstrates that they are loyal and dedicated to their work.

2. Respect your boss and her opinions. Listening and taking notes whenever she's talking which will show her that you value what she has to say.

If you find it necessary to challenge your boss regarding a work-related issue, do not take inappropriate steps such as confrontation which may escalate an already abusive situation. Instead, calmly explain your position to your boss or seek the advice and intervention of the human resources department, if applicable.

3. Hold your head up high. Don't show weakness or intimidation as those things may cause your boss to pick on you even more because he sees you as an easy target. Have confidence in your career, abilities and success. By showing that his abusiveness does not cripple you, he may look for someone else to bully.

4. Document everything that goes on between you and your boss, such as emails and conversations. Take the evidence to someone within the company who is in a position to help you. Gain support and witness statements from your coworkers.

5. Look for another job and deal with your boss as best you can until you find one. If you can't handle your boss' abusiveness and you feel there is nothing that you can do, it's best if you just move on.
