Get Free Weather Radar On My Small Sprint Phone

Weather radar allows you to monitor incoming storms.

The National Weather Service (NWS) provides radar images and radar loop graphics for mobile phones. The interface isn’t quite as slick as some of the other commercial solutions, but it’s free, readable and clear. It’s also not overly graphic, so it is good in low-bandwidth situations like one might have using a Sprint phone in a rural area. The NWS regionalizes its radars into groups of radars covering Southern, Western, Central, Pacific, Eastern and Alaskan areas.

Instructions

1. Launch your phone’s web browser. You can use any browser, from the most basic phones to the latest Sprint Android Smartphone.

2. Enter the NWS Uniform Resource Locator (URL) into the browser’s address bar, typing in the address as you would any other website. Enter the WAP address (cell.weather.gov) for the simplest phones, and the mobile URL (mobile.srh.weather.gov) for more elaborate phones. You may have to experiment to see which address works best for your phone.

3. Scroll down and choose the hyperlink relating NWS regional radars covering the region that you’d like to monitor. Choose the nearest radar. For example, if you are in Los Angeles, you’d choose the "Los Angeles" link. The radar will display on your screen. If the image displays too small and you have a smart phone, click on the "Hi Res Image" link.

4. Click on "Radar Loop" or "Hi Res Radar Loop" to see the radar in time-lapse motion.
