Enhance Your Retail Sales Abilities

In the world of retail, sales can be everything. If you work at a store tracks your sales or pays you a commission, you will want to do everything that you can to improve your selling abilities. This article will give you some steps to take for building improving your sales.

Instructions

1. Appearance matters and you should make sure that you put your best foot forward. You don't have to be a model but you do need to be approachable. Make sure that your clothes are clean and fit well. Keep your hair styled and for men make sure you are clean shaven or that your facial hair is kept neat. It is also important to wear deodorant and make sure your breath smells fresh.

2. The next step is to make sure you are approaching customers correctly. You should make sure that you greet every customer that enters the store or your department, even if you are busy with other tasks. When talking to customers ask plenty of questions and listen to the customer's needs. Do not be aggressive and do not jump immediately to a sales pitch. Your first job is to serve your customers needs, not your own.

3. Once you have engaged a customer try to find a solution for what he or she needs. If your store cannot provide a solution, be honest and do not waste the customer's time. Honesty and integrity are the best way to obtain repeat customers.

4. Your sales pitch should not be about trying to trick the customer into buying your store's products. Instead you should approach sales as a negotiation between two interested parties. A good way to approach the sale is to explain the product to the customer in terms of the time or money that they will save by purchasing it. For clothing, you could explain to the customer how the particular item could help the customer look good for an interview or provide a good impression on clients. Items like cell phones could be sold in terms of increased productivity that leads to time saved.

5. If you are using these basic techniques, you should begin to see your sales increasing.
