A well-written cover letter can get you noticed by potential employers.
Financial planners, also known as financial advisers, help businesses, families and individuals plan for their financial futures. This job comes with a great deal of responsibility, and if you want to find employment in this field, you need to show potential employers that you're able to handle the challenge and that you've had the type of experience needed to excel in this field.
Instructions
1. Type your name at the top of the cover letter. Directly under your name, type your contact information, including your physical address, phone number and email address.
2. Skip one line, and type the date on which you're sending your cover letter.
3. Skip one line, and type the name of the recipient, her job title, the company you're applying to, and the company's physical address.
4. Skip one line, and type a professional greeting, such as "Dear Ms. Smith."
5. Skip one line between each paragraph, and type out three to four single-spaced paragraphs. The first paragraph is the introduction.
6. Indicate the type of job you're applying for and where you heard of the open position in the first paragraph. Include a sentence or two that highlights your relevant skills as a financial planner, such as strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
7. Write one or two paragraphs for the body of the cover letter. These paragraphs should give specific details about your experience that would qualify you for the open position. Mention your education if you have a relevant degree, such as a bachelor's degree in accounting or statistics, and talk about your experience working as a financial planner. Include details such as experience working with complex financial concepts, extensive customer service experience or expert knowledge of financial software.
8. Thank the employer for her time in the last paragraph. Let her know that you're interested in coming in for an interview, and include dates and times when you're available.
9. Skip one line, and type a professional closing, such as "Sincerely" or "Best Regards."
10. Skip four lines, and type your name. After you print your cover letter, sign your name in that space.
11. Skip one more line, and type "Encl. (1)" if you're including your resume.
