Keep your hair short and trim with a clipper cut.
Getting your hair cut at a salon can be pricey, no matter how much hair you have on your head. If you like to keep your hair short and basic, one option is to have it done at home. Do-it-yourself haircuts will save you money in the long run. Done improperly, you could end up with a choppy cut that will have to be mended by a professional. The key to a short haircut is to use layering to keep the cut even. Use hair clippers on part of your head, then switch to scissors for a short haircut.
Instructions
1. Comb the hair at the back of the head down. Pull the comb up through the hair at the earlobe line around the back of your head. The length of the hair will depend on how close the comb is to the scalp.
2. Turn the hair clippers on. Make sure the hair poking through the comb bristles is pulled outwards and up. Position the clipper blade so that the bottom of the blade does not hang over the bottom of the comb.
3. Sweep the clipper blade horizontally across the comb to cut the hair. Repeat this process, constantly combing the hair down while cutting, for the entire back of the head.Avoid the neckline and the crown of the head.
4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the hair at the nape of the neck, cutting away small chunks of hair at a time until the neckline is even. Sweep the blade lightly across the skin of the neck to remove any fuzzy hair.
5. Comb the hair at the sides of your head over your ears. Scoop the comb underneath and pull the hair up and out. Repeat Step 3 all the way up the side of your head until you reach the crown, then do the other side of your head in the same manner.
6. Pull a thin section of hair from the top of your head, right above the clipped hair, with the thin comb. Pull the hair straight up. The length of the top of your hair will depend on how close the comb is to the scalp.
7. Cut the hair above the comb with the scissors. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 for the rest of the top of your head.
