It is difficult to lose a loved one and be left with the responsibilities of rifling through financial documents. If you realize that the person had a life insurance policy and you can't locate the documents, here are some ideas on located your loved one's policy.
Instructions
1. Find any canceled checks you can; then you can determine which insurance company you need to contact.
2. Call your relative's past employers. Your relative may have purchased additional life insurance through his place of employment.
3. Review income tax returns from the past few years. They may indicated interest income from the insurance company.
4. Contact the Medical Information Bureau. The MIB's Policy Locator Service can conduct a search of the companies to which your relative applied for life insurance.
5. Track down your relative's accountant, friends and lawyer, since any of these parties may know where the information is located or which company they were signed up with.
