Employ A Proofreader

Hire a Proofreader

Proofreaders are necessary for many business and personal projects. Some hire proofreaders to look over their business emails and letters before they're sent. Some people hire them to proofread business documents and reports. Proofreaders are also useful for touching up dissertations, book manuscripts and other important works that must be error free.

Instructions

1. Look through your local phone book to see of there are proofreading businesses in the area.

2. Go to the nearest college and contact the English department. Ask for a recommendation for proofreaders, and whether there are professors or graduate students who are available for proofreading services.

3. Post an ad on Craigslist. Post the ad on the site dedicated to your local area if you want to work face to face with a proofreader or post it on a large metropolitan area's site if the work can be done remotely. Get more applications and a larger range of rates by posting for a large city. Post the ad in the writing/editing category.

4. Post your project on a freelance bidding site to get bids for the job from all over the world. Post a clear description of the job you want done and offer a price range for the bidders. Choose the best bid proposal and hire the freelancer.

5. Prepare a contract. Understand exactly what services you'll get and what the timeframe for the project is. Make sure both parties agree on the payment schedule and method. Keep up your end of the contract and expect the same from your proofreader.

6. Ask for revisions if it is indicated in your contract. Make sure you are satisfied with the services before releasing the final payment.
