Disposal Of Gas Gas Bottles

Propane gas used to heat your home, start a grill or in other applications is typically stored in containers similar to large bottles. When one of these containers is completely emptied after extended use, you can't just throw it in the trash or set it out on the front yard for the garbage men to pick up. These containers must be disposed of properly to avoid harming anyone.

Instructions

1. Return to the dealer, distributor or retailer where your originally bought your propane. These businesses are typically set up to allow users to bring their old containers in at the time they pick up new ones. If you have your propane delivered to your home or place of business, oftentimes the delivery driver can take your old container.

2. Contact a licensed propane company in your area. Your local fire department will have a list of companies licensed to properly dispose of propane canisters, as these canisters are flammable. These companies can arrange for removal of an existing propane gas container from your property. The fees that are associated with this depend on the size of the propane tank and the specific company you are using.

3. Contact your local steel recycler and see if there is a propane container recycling program available. The service you purchase your propane canister from will be able to give you the contact information for steel recyclers in your area. If such a program is available, take your propane container to this business and drop the container off with them. Steel recyclers are often separate businesses from regular scrap yards, and propane containers will often not be accepted by scrap yards.
