Be Protected When Giving up Employment

Quitting a job doesn't have to be a stressful experience. With a little preparation and advanced planning you can walk away from you current job worry-free. This article will explain be protected when quitting a job.

1. Start saving money. If you know that you are going to be leaving your current job start saving money. A good rule of thumb is to have six months of living expenditures tucked away. This will act as a security blanket while you look for other employment.


2. Give adequate notice. You don't want to burn bridges with your current employer. Give your boss whatever the customary notice is for your field of employment.


3. Polish up your resume. Make sure that your resume is up to date and reflects all of your important and recent achievements. Ensure that your references are current and that their contact information is accurate.


4. Don't start bad mouthing the company. Especially if you are staying in the same field, it's quite likely that you may have further dealings with your boss or colleagues in the future.


5. Talk to your medical insurance providers. If at all possible try to avoid any lapses in your medical coverage between jobs. You may be able to pay to have your current group policy extended for a short while. Talk to your benefits administrator to see what options you may have.
