Sell Internet Marketing Spots

Writing a blog, running a website or performing other online activity is not always lucrative. However, one way to make money online is to sell ad space on your site. If you have a popular or informational site, you may find it simple to fill your blank advertising spots with paying customers. Rather than signing up with an ad system through a huge search engine that takes a percentage of your fees, you can sell your own space and keep most of the profit. However, if you don't have much traffic to your site, you can feel like your spaces are languishing. You can give your online presence value by finding the right advertisers that will gain exposure, while attracting more business and visitors to your website.

Instructions

1. Update your site frequently. If you have a blog, try to write posts several times a week. If you run a website, make sure that the pictures and materials are refreshed frequently and that you offer new information to keep visitors coming back.

2. Sign up with a site tracker and keep statistics on the number of people who visit and the pages that they view. To sell your ad spots, your advertisers will want to know if you have enough traffic. Start social network accounts, if you haven't already, to attract viewers to your site.

3. Create a short poll on your site to ask visitors questions about what they like on your site and the types of products that attract their interest. Then, contact the appropriate advertisers to let them know that your readers are part of their target market and offer them ad space.

4. Create a link to a page that details information on advertise on your site and the price breakdowns based on size, location and length of time. Include your email address on the page for questions. Also, set up a payment system directly connected to your site. Read the advertising costs on sites similar to yours to find the current rate for spots.

5. Place ads strategically on your site and on the pages. Some options are a banner on the top or bottom of your content, small links in the middle of your page and on the sides. Depending on your advertisers, they may have a preference for visibility and your prices should reflect the most popular positions.

6. Keep reserved ad space hidden or filled until you have advertisers for your site. Blank spaces give the appearance that your site is not popular enough for ads.

7. Make an online presence for yourself by posting comments on other sites with your website address included. Ask other websites if you can be a guest writer and place your contact information with your byline. Offer to give away a free item from a company that will help it gain exposure in exchange for a purchase of advertising spots.
